World Art Project®
World Art Project®
Stanley J. Shetka is the originator of the WORLD ART PROJECT® and is creating one work of art utilizing one significant item from every person in the world. The WORLD ART PROJECT® was first opened to the public in November 1988 at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, 2400 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The World Art Project is an international multimedia art piece that will focus on world collaboration. In 1971, Shetka conceptualized a project that would center around one world vision and become, through a common goal, a world collaboration. This universal work of art will be created by using materials from all over the world.
The concept behind the World Art Project® is to collect one substance of personal importance from every person in the world, and with those collected materials build one work of art. Everyone once can participate. You can see some examples of the WAP donations here, and take this opportunity to contribute your item to this global work of art here. All materials received will become part of the World Art Project®.
Shetka calls on artists and institutions worldwide to contribute one object of any size, shape, or form for the construction of the project. Along with an individual object, he requests a contribution on one American dollar or similar amount from any currency. The money will be used toward the production, completion and preservation of the project. The project gives contributors a chance to become part of the "public art" experience.
